In January, Mary Warren was named associate dean of instruction and assessment on the college鈥檚 Golden Triangle campus.

Warren is responsible for schedules and budgets for academic faculty on the Golden Triangle campus. In addition, she is tasked with ensuring that accreditation standards are met at all 91自拍 campuses.

鈥淲e have to measure student outcomes to ensure we are being successful and that we are improving our classes,鈥 Warren said. 鈥淚 provide training, so faculty understand how to do that and to make sure that we're actually keeping up with the numbers.鈥

Prior to taking on her new position, Warren served as a fulltime public speaking instructor on 91自拍鈥檚 Scooba campus, where she taught for one semester. She came to 91自拍 from Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson, where she taught for 19 years.

Warren wore many hats at Copiah, where, as a graduate student, she served as director of the color guard and taught developmental courses. She later taught communications courses, including public speaking, mass communications, journalism and introduction to broadcasting. She oversaw the student newspaper and Honors College and served as the lead advisor of Phi Theta Kappa for 12 years. She was also the advisor for the academic team, which competed in college quiz bowls.

Her tenure as an instructor at Copiah wasn鈥檛 Warren鈥檚 first brush with the college. She also earned an associate degree there. Her first teaching job was as an instructor with Alexander Junior High School in Brookhaven where she taught for about a year before returning to Copiah to teach.

She almost made a different career choice and initially enrolled in a nursing program.

鈥淚 took all these nursing classes, and my instructor sat me down and said, 鈥榊ou don't like blood. You're not going to be a nurse.鈥

A junior high school teacher once told Warren that given her passion for helping people, she should consider a career in teaching, which is the route she wound up taking. After earning a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Alcorn University, Warrant completed her master鈥檚 degree in applied communications from Mississippi Christian University, formerly known as Mississippi College.

She is currently working on her Ph.D. in communications at Liberty University. The product of a military family, Warren has resided in U.S. military bases across the world and in 48 U.S. states.
